Smoothly to Brussels Airport

When you say Brussels Airport, you think of aircraft. But that is not the only means of transport at the airport. Hundreds of trains, buses, cars and bicycles arrive each day at the airport as well. For example, people change from train to bus, or vice versa. And very shortly you’ll also be able to catch a tram. And the sportier types at the airport? They come by bike!

Rapid connections to the rest of the country

Student Yentl Vanhoof takes the bus to Brussels Airport four or five times a week. From there she takes the train to Antwerp.

“I live in Kampenhout and am doing my third bachelor's degree at Antwerp University. To get there, I first take the bus and then the train. From door to door takes me approximately one hour and thirty minutes. During the train ride I mainly enjoy the views and catch up on some sleep because I'm often on the go very early."

“Why do I choose to take this route? From Brussels Airport I can take a direct train to Antwerp. I don't need to worry about connections and can stay comfortably in my seat. I don't need to wait on a cold, windy platform, because the platforms are inside. The bus stop is also covered. That's great in the winter!"

Healthy for body and mind

Geraldine: “I am Corporate Image & Sponsoring Coordinator at Brussels Airport Company. Every day I bike thirteen kilometres from home to my office at the airport, which is close to the departures hall. It takes me just over half an hour, which is a bit faster than before, because I recently bought an electric bike. So I'm here faster and with less effort."

“My route is flat with a cycle path almost everywhere, and on the Haachtsesteenweg there are even separate traffic lights for cyclists and pedestrians. I park my bike just under the building. Then I take the stairs, and three minutes later I'm sitting with a cup of coffee at my desk. My bicycle charges up the whole day at the free charging point. So I always leave for home with a full battery. And what’s important for me: this is one hundred percent green electricity, because Brussels Airport buys only green electricity since 2010."

“At work, there are showers and lockers, and as a sporty commuter they pamper me with extras. A free fluo-jacket, an annual breakfast on Car Free Day and a bike allowance. With that money, I will earn back the cost of my electric bike in just 2.5 years. So cycling is not only healthy for body and mind, it's also good for your wallet! They’re going to open a bike point soon nearby for repairs and spares. There will also be new charging points. The airport is getting more and more bike-friendly.”
