Brussels Airport supports ‘Sign for my future’
Never before has climate change been so high on the social agenda: young and old have demonstrated in vast numbers for a strict climate change policy. If we are to keep global warming below 2 degrees, as stipulated in the Paris Climate Agreement, additional efforts will be needed, certainly in our country. Belgium will not meet many of its climate targets by 2020.
‘Sign for my future’ is a citizens’ initiative, which has grown into the broadest coalition ever of citizens, young people, managers, civil society organisations, the media and the academic world and now calls on all Belgians to speak out for a strong climate change policy. Brussels Airport Company has signed the petition and is one of the ambassadors. The aviation sector is, after all, growing rapidly and everyone knows that reducing the environmental impact caused by aviation is an enormous challenge.
For this reason, Brussels Airport has been working for years to limit its impact on the environment and has already undertaken numerous initiatives. This forms part of the long-term vision of further developing the airport in a sustainable way. Each and every business activity, project and management decision is tested against its impact on the environment. This conscious overall approach has enabled the airport to reduce its CO2 footprint year-on-year. A reduction of 34% compared to 2010 has already been achieved and since last year, Brussels Airport has been recognised as a CO2-neutral airport. The aim is to reduce CO2 emissions by another 40% by 2030, and the airport is doing everything to take even more steps in the future.
But the long-term ambitions of the airport in the area of sustainability do not stop there. Reducing the impact on the environment even further will only be possible if there is a collective, worldwide approach. That is why the CEO of Brussels Airport Company, Arnaud Feist, supports the ‘Sign for my Future’ initiative, the largest coalition every formed in Belgium that calls on the government to adopt a more ambitious climate change policy after the elections in May 2019. As ambassador of this initiative, the airport’s CEO is fully behind finding a coherent approach in Belgium in order to address both the European and global climate challenges.
Have you signed yet? Support the initiative, sign it, and demonstrate that a strong climate change policy is essential. The more signatures, the more powerful the statement. You can sign for the climate and sign for our future at www.signformyfuture.be/brusselsairport.
