Travelling smoothly to Brussels Airport with the Ringtrambus
De Lijn's new trambuses are synonymous with smooth and comfortable travel. From now on, they will run daily from the UZ Brussel in Jette via Vilvoorde station to Brussels Airport and back!
With the definitive start of the daily tram bus service on line 820, a new chapter in the mobility story of Brussels Airport is dawning. The trambus, which largely runs in a segregated lane, helps to offer an alternative to the structural traffic jams north of Brussels. In the start-up phase, during the quiet summer months, the trams run every 30 minutes from the UZ Brussel in Jette, via Vilvoorde station to Brussels Airport and back! From 1 September 2020, this will be every 15 minutes, which is good news for commuters.

The official inauguration took place on 28 June 2020 in the presence of Lydia Peeters - Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works and Elke Van den Brande - Minister of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region, in charge of Mobility, Public Works and Road Safety. Roger Kesteloot, managing director of De Lijn, and Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company, were also present.
Brussels Airport is more than just an airport, it is an intermodal hub. In order to offer commuters - many of whom work at the airport - even better connections, Brussels Airport is constantly trying to strengthen its role as an intermodal hub by lobbying for new connections or extra frequencies.
It is thanks to our collaboration with De Lijn, among others, that we are able to offer our passengers and, in particular, the commuters from the region around Brussels, the best connections. The Ringtrambus is a valuable and welcome addition to this offer.

Moreover, the trambus is a sustainable mobility solution: it is a hybrid vehicle that emits considerably less CO2 into the air than an ordinary bus and is much quieter. De Lijn's choice for the hybrid trambus fits in seamlessly with Brussels Airport’s own strategy to develop the airport sustainably.
In addition to the Ringtrambus, two other connections are in the pipeline: the express tram between Willebroek and Brussels North and the airport tram between Brussels North and Brussels Airport. Together they form an important lever to reduce congestion in the northern periphery around Brussels.
