Word from the CEO
Brussels Airport, November 17th, 2016
Dear reader,
The world has never been so close. More and more people travel to other countries to discover new cultures or explore new business opportunities. Brussels Airport is the starting-point for fantastic adventures and new possibilities for more than 70,000 passengers each day.
At the same time, Brussels Airport is also the gateway to our country for the rest of the world. The mint in your mojito, the newest iPhone in your pocket, friends from other countries paying you a visit.
Thanks to the airport, that’s all possible at the snap of a finger. In 1958, it was a strategic decision for our country to build a new civil airport and that proved a fruitful decision for the economic development of our country. The future offers even more possibilities.

There are enormous growth opportunities ahead of us in the coming years. We want to grasp them in order to offer new destinations and services to our passengers, more import and export opportunities for our companies and more tourists and business people for our country. This is a unique chance that we simply must use to strengthen the position of Brussels and Belgium on the world map.
To achieve this, we have worked hard on a Strategic Vision 2040 that I am presenting to you in detail on this website.
This Strategic Vision offers the possibility of creating 10,000 new jobs in the next five years and by 2040 even as much as 60,000 additional jobs. For us it is important that this takes place in a balanced approach between the economic development of the airport and the care for our environment.
That is why your opinion is important for us. We want to enter into a dialogue. On this website, everybody can ask their questions. In addition, you can put yourself forward as candidate for participating in Forum 2040, a dialogue group we will set up shortly. The aim is to bring together different backgrounds and fields of expertise in order to achieve better insight into the various positions of all the parties involved. This information will prove extremely valuable for us in helping refine our Strategic Vision.
I hope you enjoy reading the articles on this website. And it goes without saying that I am looking forward to receiving your suggestions and questions.
